QUAD BIKING, HERMANUS, SOUTH AFRICA
There are so many adventure sports to choose from around Cape Town, Hermanus and within the Western Cape that you will be on an adrenaline high for your whole holiday in South Africa.
Quad Biking is one such activity that the whole family can enjoy, with thankfully no age restrictions, no special licences and no advance training needed. After a short briefing on what to do, you strap on your helmet, mount your multi-coloured beast and you are off throwing up a dust cloud behind you for the person following to eat.
These modern 250cc quad bikes are quite powerful, have automatic gears (so theres no fiddling about with gear selection), have lots of soft suspension so that your ride is comfy, have all the lights a car have (therefore making indicating or braking obvious for all to see) big fat knobbly tyres to grip the ground and ample room to seat 2 person per quad bike.
There are many amazing scenic routes to discover, from wine farms and fields of grape vines, flower farms, olive groves, 4 x 4 trails, forests, sand dunes and mountain ranges. Wherever you explore with the air zipping past your face, you are bound to have incredible scenery around every corner, so remember to take your camera.
Each trip has a maximum of 8 quad bikes, so the groups are kept small and you don’t have too much of a traffic jam while zooming along for your 2 hour adventure. Your instructor takes the lead and his assistant brings up the rear, therefore ensuring that everyone is looked after totally.
As they are rear wheel powered, steering on some sections of the terrain can be an art form, but after half an hour you will have mastered how these quad bikes react and you will be much more confident to go alot faster.
For those with a highly competitive lust, then there are race tracks, with marshals, pit stops and trophy ceremonies.
Whether it’s for a family, a bunch of friends or for a corporate team building event, quad biking is an excellent sport that will have you smiling and laughing.
One of our recent tour group members loved his first quad biking trip so much, that as soon as he got home he bought himself a quad bike on eBay. Now if that isn’t a seal of approval of an excellent day’s adventures, then I don’t know what is.
