From JAN 2018 - Boat Cruises, Eco-Trips, Sun-downers, Kayaking & adventures...to explore the ocean, coast & marine bio-diversity of Hermanus
NEWS FLASH - these are the ocean trips available from January 2018.....
OPTION 1 – from JANUARY 2018 and onwards....
Launching from Kleinbaai
Boat departs from another harbour situated 45mins around the bay from Hermanus (2hr and 15mins from Cape Town) and is called their “Eco-trip” where you might see dolphin, plus you also circle the Shark Diving boats to hopefully see Great White Sharks and will then circle Dyer Island where there are 65,000 Cape Fur Seals, plus loads of different sea birds including African Penguins – trips depart at 10.00am – weather permitting a second trip might launch at – 13.00pm – meeting time and trip time may vary daily according to tide and weather conditions.
FROM – January, 2018 – until – 31st May, 2018
Prices are = R910 per adult / R710 for children younger than 12 years / Under 5’s, free of charge
Meeting times are usually – 09.15am for 10.00am launch – and possible afternoon trips are at a meeting time of 12.15pm
OPTION 2 – from JANUARY 2018 and onwards....
Launching from Gansbaai
MARINE BIG 5 SEA SAFARI to visit Danger Point and/or Walker Bay – harbour 45mins from Hermanus.
Meeting time of – 09.30am for a 10.00am launch – and – 12.30pm for a 13.00pm launch – 2hrs trips
Danger Point is where we still stand a chance of spotting Humpback and Bryde Whales, which have been very active this year in that area, as well as, Dolphins, Cape Fur Seals and Penguins
1) Marine Big 5 Sea Safari – R750 per adult / R375 per kid under 12yrs / under 5yrs go for free
2) Sunset Cruises - 17.30pm – Cheese and Wine – R750 per adult / R375 per kid under 12yrs / under 5yrs go for free – 16.30pm meeting time for a 17.00pm launch. Returning to land at approx 19.00pm.

OPTION 3 – from Hermanus
Kayaking – Available ALL year long
You might also wish to consider Kayaking in the bay – launching from Hermanus – which is a gentle paddle for 2 hours to explore our coastline from the sea in stable Kayaks. Each Kayak can take 2 persons and is a lovely way to encounter Seals, Penguins, birdlife and hopefully pods of Dolphin, with the incredibly pretty back-drop of our mountains surrounding you.
Your Kayaking Tour Guide will give you a quick 10min briefing, while you strap on a life-jacket, grab a paddle and he will escort you out to sea, hugging the coastline.
Please wear flip-flops and clothes that you don’t mind getting slightly wet below your waistline and only bring small compact cameras that you can easily and quickly stow-away. Minimum age is 10yrs old, as you need body weight and upper body strength to propel yourself along. Maximum group size is 19 persons.
Trips go out 3 times per day – 08.00am / 10.30am / 13.00pm – with the early morning trips usually being the best weather conditions. Price per person is R400 – cash on the day please, thanks
OPTION 4 – launch from Kleinbaai (near Gansbaai) - 45mins from Hermanus
Great White Shark trips – Available ALL year long
Hermanus / Gansbaai is THE place on the planet to do Great White Shark cage diving / surface viewing trips; which is an utterly incredible experience that ALL the family can do – we have known 8 year old kids and 92 year old Grandmas to jump into the cage.
Boats conduct tours ALL year long – usual meeting time is 06.30am
There is NO need for scuba or snorkelling experience as it is all surface viewing and novices are very welcome. You pop on a wet suit, pop on a mask and jump into the cage, which is 3 metres high; 2 metres under water and 1 metre above it. When a shark approaches, all you do is hold your breathe and duck-down into the lower section of the submerged cage.
Resurfacing obviously to get another lung full of air – while probably screaming your lungs-out with excitement. Each cage holds up to 6 people in one go. You will be at sea for 3 to 5 hours.
You get included in the price – a light breakfast of coffee, tea, cereal, toast, fruit, yogurts etc; cold drinks and light snacks on board and then return to land for hot soup and munchies afterwards.
Professional DVD cameraman is also on board to capture all the action, maybe under water footage too.
We deal with all 7 boats and prices vary from – R1700 per person – to – R2120 per person – some boats allow kids of all ages, while some don't (providing Baby-Sitters on land while you are out on the ocean) – some offer kids discounts and some don't.....
PRIVATE Charter of a Shark boat is from = R33,000 for 3 hours
Return transfers in minibuses is available – Cape Town = R500 per person / Hermanus = R300 Per person

OPTION 5 - SHARK SCIENCE & EXPLORATION TRIPS – Available ALL year long
SHARK EXPEDITIONS AFRICA
Meet Africa's iconic ocean predators.
Experience Shark Science & conservation first-hand in the Cape Whale Coast "Hope Spot" - a world renowned Shark diversity hotspot, with over 60 species of Sharks, Skates & Stingrays described in this area, you never know which species you will meet. Each expedition is a journey of exploration & discovery led by our experienced, world-renowned Shark Scientists.
Our shark expeditions are science- and conservation-based, and each trip will involve you getting hands-on experience working with diverse sharks in this totally jawsome shark diversity hotspot! You will work with our expedition leaders to tag, sample and monitor the behaviour of sharks - giving you an unparalleled shark experience. All the incredible data you help us collect will contribute to a 10-year study on sharks in Walker Bay and, as an added bonus - 10% of your booking fee is donated to our sister company, the South African Shark Conservancy!
Briefings for all trips take place 1/2 hour before the scheduled trip time. No children under 10 are permitted on trips. All divers must present their updated dive logbook and dive certification card at the briefing in order to participate in a dive. 15% non-refundable deposit on bookings to secure your space. Balance of payment is to be made at the time of the trip briefing. Debit and credit cards are accepted.
Option 6 –
River Boat Braai (BBQ) Cruises – Available ALL year long
Conducted along the very pretty Stanford River (25 minutes from Hermanus) with fabulous views of the mountains and loads of different birds species to watch – in summer feel free to jump into the river for a refreshing swim – Trips are for 2 hours and can launch at any time that you desire (during day light hours) – they supply the boat, braai and wood – you bring your own food, drinks, cutlery and crockery –
Price per person = R150 – Min 4 persons Max 12 persons
Option 7 –
Fishing trips to the reefs of Hermanus - Available ALL year long
Leave Hermanus harbour at about 07.00am in a small "skiff" boat to do Reef fishing in Walker Bay, getting back to land at about 12noon/1pm-ish, all gear is supplied, all that you catch you can take back to land and braai if you so desire. Price is R850 to R1000 per person. Maximum of 6 persons per trip.
You are very welcome to please bring along your own picnic cooler-box of munchies and drinks.
Option 8 –
Cessna plane flights – Available ALL year long
1 additional amazing activity is flying in a 3 seater Cessna plane, that takes off from the small village of Stanford (25mins from Hermanus)
Flights are conducted in all day-light hours for 45mins and longer – MAX – 3 persons / 250kgs in weight
TOTAL price per flight varies upon the length of your desired flight – 20mins = R2550 / 30mins = R3850 / 45mins = R5500 / 60mins = R7300
Option 9 –
Helicopter flights – Available ALL year long
Helicopter based at Gansbaai - "Squirrel" (Eurocopter AS350 / Airbus H1255) maximum of 5 passengers (40mins drive from Hermanus) to fly over the Whales in the bay – Launching from Gansbaai –
TOTAL price = 15mins R5000 – 30mins R10,000 – 60mins R20,000 – or –
Departing from Hermanus –
TOTAL price = 15mins R8000 – 30mins R12,500 – 60mins R23,500 –
Prices divided by number of persons on the flight
TERMS and CONDITIONS –
- All trips are weather permitting; cancellation can occur with little prior notice if necessary. Notification of any cancellations will be made by telephone.
- Should the trip not take place due to sea conditions, a full refund of the ticket price will be given / no payment required.
- These tours have a minimum number of passenger’s requirement. Should the minimum requirements for the trip to commence not be met, you will be notified the day prior to your tour of cancellation or rescheduling as per cruise schedule.
- Late clients and ‘no shows’ will not be refunded.
- Cancellations received less than 3 days before trip departure - 100% cancellation fee will be charged
- In the event of unforeseeable circumstances policies can be amended at the discretion of the boat/s
